SUMMERLAND, Nev. - The Christian singer Carman thought his career was long over when doctors diagnosed him with multiple myeloma, an inoperable cancer, earlier this year.
But when he announced the news on Facebook, and the likelihood that he has three to five years to live, Carman says supportive messages poured in by the thousands, many encouraging him to record and tour again.
The 57-year-old singer says, "How could I deny them?" On the other hand, he hasn't had a record contract for more than a decade.
So Carman launched an online Kickstarter campaign that so far has raised about $200,000.
With that support and encouragement, Carman says he intends to use the time he has left to serve God and minister with his talents.
