CLEVELAND - Growing up, apple squares were a favorite at birthday parties and summer family gatherings for Chris Koetke, Host of Let's Dish. His mom made it again recently, and he was reminded just how good it is, so he had to share his mom's recipe with you.
Recipe for Apple Squares
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cook time: 50-60 minutes
Serves: 12-15, depending on the size of the slice
3 cups sifted flour
¾ teaspoon salt
1 pinch baking powder
1 cup plus 2 Tablespoons shortening
3 egg yolks
½ cup plus 2 Tablespoons cold milk
12 cups peeled, sliced apples
1 ¼ cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
