ATLANTA - A "meow" outside the door of an Atlanta home has turned into a labor of love for a dog.
Camille and Mari Ryan Heschmeyer say their dog, Ellie, has taken ownership of a little kitten they found abandoned outside their home last week.
And although she has never had puppies, Ellie has become very much a mother to this baby feline.
"Neither of us really wanted a cat. We're both allergic. And Ellie was so protective of the kitten than the two dogs were…she wouldn't let him around the other one, so it was a little stressful. She wouldn't leave this kitten's side. It's gotten a little better, where she'll come out to eat and drink and go to the bathroom... that's about it. And we couldn't stop taking pictures. We couldn't believe...we could see the stress in Ellie's eyes...if we were going to take him back,” said Camille Heschmeyer.
Ellie is just like any new mother who takes care of her newborn.
"She doesn't sleep,” said Mari Ryan Heschmeyer
"Oh, yeah.. The kitten is starting to walk. And if she gets away from her, she either drags her back by her tail or she'll pick her up and place her again..she'll carry her up and down the stairs. When she wants to go somewhere, she usually takes the car with her,” said Camille Heschmeyer.
The Heschmeyers have decided that Ellie can keep her kitten and they have named her Angela.
