CLEVELAND - Ahh, the All-Star season of “Dancing with the Stars.” Once again, Bristol Palin proves to be the wild card.
But first, kicking off the results show, the judges ask singer Sabrina Bryan and Louis for an encore of their quickstep. It looks even better than the first time. What fast footwork.
Time for the first results. Sabrina and Louis are safe, as are NFL retiree Emmitt and Cheryl, plus singer Drew Lachey and Anna.
Drew tweeted, “Thank u, thank u, thank u to everyone who voted for me & @ atrebunskaya ! We could not have done it without each and every one of you. # dwts .”
The first couple in jeopardy: singer Joey Fatone and Kym.
Host Tom Bergeron also takes this opportunity to foreshadow a shocker for next week: there will be a double elimination, and two stars will go home.
British singer Cher Lloyd gives us our first guest performance of the evening, performing her hit “Want U Back” – and it actually looks like she’s singing. Nice job, Cher.
Now for more results. Tom tell us that Olympian Shawn Johnson and Derek are safe, as are actress Kirstie Alley and Maks, but actress Kelly Monaco and Val are in jeopardy.
Shawn tweeted, “Just want to thank you ALL!!! Safe one more week!! So excited! Get ready for a crazy Quickstep!!! # DWTS # TeamShawnough .” Kirstie, excited to return next week, tweeted, “Going to sleep now... gotta make this Cha Cha kill!!! Thanks again and remember: shag a dancer .. it'll do your step ball change good .;).”
Bristol and Mark are standing there, waiting to find out if they will face elimination or not. They were Monday's lowest-scoring couple, several points below the next lowest star. Tom tells us that they are indeed safe. Shocker! It’s clear anything can happen.
But maybe judge Carrie Ann Inaba should have gone easier on their post-dance critique. She said the routine was a slam to the judges, so they would slam back with the scores.
Apparently, sympathetic viewers slammed back with support for Bristol.
At this point, I’m also hoping Kelly and Val survive. They look preposterously adorable in their post-dance interview clip, faking four photo booth poses. Can they get a sitcom already?
Former DWTS finalist and classical singer Katherine Jenkins is back, but only for the night, to perform “Come What May” with opera singer Placido Domingo.
Back to the results. Actor Gilles Marini and Peta are safe, as are TV host Melissa Rycroft and Tony, plus Olympian Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina. But racecar driver Helio Castroneves and Chelsie are in jeopardy.
Melissa tweeted, “You guys did it again...!! THANK YOU for getting us through to next week!! We're going to continue to work hard and try to make you proud!!”
Time for the elimination. Will it be Joey, Kelly or Helio?
Tom tells us that Kelly is safe. A relieved Kelly tweeted, “I am speechless. Thank you so much. @ iamValC and I are gonna work our butts off to bring a killer dance next week. # teamVally .”
Helio and Joey await their fates – and it’s Joey who did not get enough viewer votes.
Apolo tweeted his sympathies: WOW! What a crazy night.....Sad to see @ realjoeyfatone and Kim be eliminated. Thank you to all the fans who kept us safe another week....”
Helio, a former winner, tweeted his gratitude: “Thank you for the votes everyone , first experience in the bottom 2 not fun!We got to have the vote......this season it's very interesting!”
After the show, Joey tweeted, “thanks for all your love n support and votes but my ass got kicked off DWTS tonight lol . It is what it is. Had a great time!”
Besides the double elimination, next week the remaining couples will perform an unlearned dance inspired from an iconic performance from the past. The next competition airs Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
