CLEVELAND - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Positively Cleveland officials announced another milestone for Cleveland Tuesday.
The announcement was made outside of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum at 10 a.m.
David Gilbert, president of Positively Cleveland, flanked by Rock Hall CEO Terry Stewart, announced a world class marathon event headed to Cleveland in 2013.
"We're bringing the Rock and Roll half marathon here on October 5th, 2013. Starting and finishing right downtown here in Cleveland," said Dana Allen, Senior Vice President-Development for Competitor Group, Inc. "We're going to get some beautiful lakefront views and go through the great downtown core and we're kind of in the process of designing a course right now, but we will certainly hit a bunch of beautiful landmarks here."
Here are the details:
- Inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Cleveland Half Marathon Set for Saturday, October 5, 2013
- 13.1-mile race will feature a finish line concert with local bands and fanfare at every mile
- Event to start downtown adjacent to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
- Special Entry Fee of $55 for the first 500 entrants, registration open at Competitor.com
It’s estimated that more than 50 percent of participants will travel from out of town filling more than 5,000 Cleveland area hotel rooms.
"The Rock and Roll Marathon Series puts live bands every mile out on the course for the runners, so given the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's connections they're going to help us with local band recruitment. We do a big post-race concert after the race and the Rock Hall will us bring in a really great band for that concert," Allen said.
The world class sporting event will have a major impact on Cleveland restaurants and local businesses, and be just one more reason to visit downtown Cleveland.
"We're thrilled to welcome this marathon to the Rock and Roll Capital of the World," said Terry Stewart, CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. “This is yet another wonderful event that reminds people near and far that Cleveland is an excellent destination and that Cleveland Rocks."
