Garfield Heights Swimming Pool Resident Appreciation Days
When: 8:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Where: Garfield Heights Dan Kostel Recreation Center|-5411 Turney Road, Garfield Heights
Details: Join members of the Garfield Heights recreation department as they show their appreciation for residents with a week of free pool access. Resident Appreciation Days wraps up Sunday, June 17. Each city ward has an assigned day. Proof of residency is required and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Special Needs Family Fun Fridays
When: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Where: Shaker Heights Library Play and Learn station (2nd floor)|- 16500 Van Aken Boulevard, Shaker Heights

Summer Reading Club: "Around the World in 30 Books"
When: Ongoing through August 11, 2012
Where: Lakewood Public Library|-15425 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood
Details: Join the challenge to read 30 books over the summer via the Lakewood Public Library Summer Reading Club. Children visit the reading club desk once a week to collect stamps and tickets toward prize drawings. Kids receive a certificate, a nameplate and special reward when completed. Avon Lake Towne Center Pancake Breakfast & Tour
When: 9 a.m.
Where: Avon Lake Towne Center Community Campus|-200 Community Drive, Avon Lake
Details: Join members of the Avon Lake Towne Center for a pancake breakfast and tour of the complex’s independent living apartments. The breakfast menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee. 4th Annual Peninsula Plein Air Competition Along the Crooked River
When: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where:Peninsula Art Academy|-1600 W. Mill Street, Peninsula
Details: Join local artists as they compete against each other en plein air (in the open air) in the Village of Peninsula. The weekend-long competition kicks off today and runs through Sunday, June 17. An exhibit of the works created will be on display and available for sale at Peninsula Art Academy June 30 through August 11. 7th Annual Hudson Plein Air Paint Out
When: 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Brewster Mansion |-9 Aurora Street, Hudson
Details: Join local artists at the Hudson Home and Garden Tour and the Clock Tower Green for a variety of events. Entertain yourself with a Quick Draw event and live auction, and wine and cheese reception. This event is free of age restrictions. Free parking is also available. No reservations are needed.
Chardon Famer’s Market
When: 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Where: Chardon Square |-Short Court Street, Chardon
Details: Join local farmers and artisans as they sell produce, baked goods, and other products specific to the area.
9th Annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival
When: 4 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Where: Veteran’s Memorial Park|-37001 Detroit Road, Avon
Details: Join the community of Avon as they celebrate duct tape and its historical ties to the city. Avon, which is proclaimed the “Duct Tape Capital” of the world, is home to Duck brand duct tape. During the weekend-long festival, duct tape enthusiasts will showcase and sale all sorts of creations. Food vendors will also be on hand. The festival, which includes a parade on Saturday, runs through Sunday, June 17.
Frankfurter Fridays
When: 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Where:Church of the Ascension |-13216 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood
Details: Join the Church of Ascension members as they kick off their weekly Frankfurter Fridays. Enjoy beverages and grilled hotdogs, along with conversation and yard games for all ages. Frankfurter Fridays runs now through September 21. For more information, call the Church
