NEW YORK - Charlie Sheen's character in "Two and a Half Men" was killed off by being hit by a subway train.
"His body just exploded like a balloon full of meat," Rose, who played Charlie Harper's obsessed neighbor in the sitcom, explained.
Television's most popular comedy ended the months-long mystery of how the fired Sheen's character would be written out of the series and his replacement, Ashton Kutcher, written in. Sheen played ad writer Harper with Jon Cryer his live-in brother and Angus T. Jones playing Cryer's son.
Series creator Chuck Lorre seemed to get revenge for Sheen's spectacular, insult-spewing exit last spring with a series of insults.
The show opened with a funeral scene where Cryer's character said that it was a sad day for everyone.
"Speak for yourself," one woman shouted from the audience.
Kutcher plays Internet billionaire Walden Schmidt, who appeared at the doorway of Harper's old home wet from a suicide attempt in the ocean. It seems Schmidt may be tall, good looking and rich, but he's morose about a lost love.
Cryer's character, Alan Harper, takes Schmidt out for a drink, where Schmidt meets two women and brings them home to Harper's home.
"I dig your house," he said. "I'm going to buy it."
