Country singer MIRANDA LAMBERT is joining forces with dog food brand Pedigree to help homeless pooches and dog shelters across the U.S.

The animal-loving singer has pledged her support to the Pedigree Feeding Program, an initiative which provides dog shelters with free food, enabling them to spend the money they save elsewhere.

Lambert, who is married to country star Blake Shelton, is calling on fans to nominate their town as the next place to benefit from the initiative by telling their stories on Facebook.com.

She tells Country Weekly, "It's so cool for me to be part of it because my passions are music and animals. They (Pedigree) are looking for a new community, and they will give shelters in that community food for a year and it's saved shelters up to $100,000 in the past so they are able to use that money for other things... And what I love about it, is that it's going to draw so much attention and awareness to shelters across the country."
