JUSTIN BIEBER took time out of his busy schedule on Thursday (14Jun12) to surprise fans camped out on the streets of New York ahead of a free concert by the teen superstar on Friday morning (15Jun12).

Devotees began lining up around Manhattan's Rockefeller Plaza on Tuesday (12Jun12) in a bid to be front and centre when the Baby hitmaker performed an outdoor gig as part of a concert series for U.S. breakfast show Today.

Bieber arrived in the Big Apple on Thursday and he decided to pay a special visit to his loyal followers, holding an impromptu meet-and-greet with fans at the venue.

The singer admits he felt compelled to show his gratitude in person because he was well aware that some of those camped out would not actually get a ticket to see him onstage.

Speaking before the gig, he told TV presenter Matt Lauer, "We had some time off, so I made an effort to go out there and see all those fans, 'cause a lot of those people on the streets back there, they're not even gonna get to see me...

"I wouldn't be here without all my fans and all of their support. I even wrote a song called Believe, on the album Believe, and it's basically about how my fans inspire me, so it's a song for them. I always like to pay it forward."

Bieber performed a string of hits at the mini-concert and he had another surprise in store for the audience - rapper Big Sean joined him onstage for their new duet As Long As You Love Me.
