Actress MARCIA CROSS donates a portion of her income to charity because she feels "an obligation to give back".

Editors at Forbes magazine recently reported the Desperate Housewives star is one of the highest-earning women on TV, bagging $10 million between May 2010 and May 2011.

Cross admits she's happy to hand cash to organisations close to her heart - but she finds it difficult to promote good causes by putting in appearances at charity events.

She tells Britain's Easy Living magazine, "I feel an obligation to give back... What's been hard for me as an actress is understanding that putting on a dress and make-up, which I don't like doing that much, and showing up actually supports charities...

"Before, I used to do much more volunteer work, which felt more meaningful."
