You likely have heard "Rudolph" and "Jingle Bell Rock" hundreds of times already this year - if not thousands.
Holiday melodies are playing in shopping malls, elevators and doctor's offices. It's the season of holiday music, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has comprised a list of the most played holiday music thus far this season.
Each year radio stations start playing holiday music earlier and earlier, so the following list is the results of what has been played the most from Oct. 1 to Nov. 28, ASCAP reported. Results were tabulated using Mediaguide from over 2,500 radio stations.
Although there are many versions of each song, ASCAP also included the most popular recording of the song, as well as who wrote it. The association also notes that each song was written by someone who was a member of ASCAP.
1. " Sleigh Ride" was the most played song, getting air time 64,317 times. It was written by Leroy Anderson and Mitchell Parish, and the most popular version is the one sung by Leroy Anderson.
2. " Winter Wonderland" was played 54,741 times and was written by Felix Bernard and Richard B. Smith. The most popular version played is the one performed by Eurythmics.
3. " The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" performed by Nat King Cole was played 50,796 times and was written by Mel Tormé, Robert Wells.
4. " Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne was played 49,509 times and came in at number four. And like the previous three popular versions, the classic version was the most played. This one sung by Dean Martin.
5. " Jingle Bell Rock" sung by Bobby Helms and written by Joseph Carleton Beal and James Ross Boothe was the fifth most popular song, getting played 47,100 times.
6. " It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" barely missed the number five spot, getting played just over 600 times less than "Jingle Bell Rock" for a total of 46,492 times. This Christmas classic, performed by Andy Williams, was written by Edward Pola and George Wyle.
7. " Do You Hear What I Hear?" was played 41,633 times to take the seventh spot and changes up the list a bit with a modern-day singer's version being the most popular – Whitney Houston. The song was written by Gloria Shayne Baker and Noël Regney.
8. " It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" wouldn't sound right to a lot of people if it wasn't sung by Bing Crosby. This popular version was played 39,885 times and written by Meredith Willson.
9. " Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" was written by Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin, and played 38,395 times with The Carpenters singing.
10. " Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer," played 37,266 times and written by Johnny Marks completes the list at number ten. The most popular version of this favorite Christmas song for all ages is performed by Gene Autry.
