CLEVELAND - Whether everyday objects completely reimagined, or Hollywood icons captured spectacularly on canvas, the Summer Show in the Reinberger Galleries at the Cleveland Institute of Art is a refreshing and entertaining collection of artwork.
The pieces have been selected from more than 1,200 objects of art and design exhibited in early May for CIA's Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis reviews. This massive collection of work includes every imaginable material - from traditional paint and canvas, to bones and crumpled newspaper. The results are by turns beautiful, functional, funny, touching and thoughtful.
The BFA Thesis project is "unique to schools of art and design, and is the core of the senior year for all CIA students." Director of the Reinberger Galleries Bruce Checefsky says he sees "a lot of student work, and a lot from schools similar to ours, Rhode Island School of Design, Chicago, Maryland and our students really are some of the best in this field. This is really the best work they've produced while they're here, so the exhibit is a reflection of that."
For collectors of art, there are bargains to be found. Most of the pieces in the show are for sale. The Cleveland Institute of Art's Summer Show opens on Monday and continues through Aug. 19. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
