CLEVELAND - WEWS photojournalist Dave Arnold was named a regional Edward R. Murrow award winner this week for his coverage of a breaking news story in Elyria last year.
The The Radio Television Digital News Association released a list of the winners on Wednesday. The purpose of the award is to recognize excellence in electronic journalism.
Arnold captured people trying to rescue an elderly man from his house moments after it caught fire on December 31, 2009. Arnold was driving in the area, spotted the smoke and went over to see what was happening.
The story, which can be seen by clicking on the video player, shows the moments between when people were trying to help and when the fire department arrived at the scene.
This award makes Arnold eligibile for a national Murrow award. Those will be presented October 11 in New York.
