When NewsChannel5 viewers think of the Akron Bureau, the first person to come to mind should be Joe McGee. Joe is a photographer who has been covering news in the Akron area for NewsChannel 5 for more than 25 years. If there is news happening in Akron, Joe either knows about it or will find out about it.
Joe has covered almost all the major news stories in the
Akron/Canton area over the past two decades. "I enjoy my job
because I can make a difference in people's lives," he says. Joe
points out the story he did with the Open M Food Pantry in Akron.
The pantry had been robbed, and after the story aired on
NewsChannel 5, donations came pouring in.
Joe and his wife, Diana, are busy raising four children. If
four kids sound like a lot of work, imagine what it was like when
the first three were born; Joseph, Katelyn and Lauryn are
17-year-old triplets. Dad is always busy helping them school
projects, plays, etc. Eleven-year-old son John is a 5th grader at
St. Sebastian Elementary.
The Glassboro, New Jersey Native, came to Northeast Ohio for
school. He graduated from
Ashland University in 1981.
He worked at WAKC-TV in Akron before coming to NewsChannel5 in
1983.
