CLEVELAND -- Viewers have been asking NewsChannel5 consumer reporter John Matarese for months if anyone has compared the new TV converter boxes -- which you'll need to watch over the air television next year.

Consumer Reports Magazine tested 14 digital converter boxes. It said paying more does not get you a better converter box.

It's top rated models:

• The Tivax: $50
• The Microgem: $65

Now the bad news: It may be impossible for you to find these top rated models. Most stores have just one brand in stock, if they have any.

Matarese said the best converter box is any model that you can find.

"I don't think you can be choosy about a brand right now, especially if your $40 Government Voucher is going to expire in a few weeks," he said.
