CLEVELAND -- 'Tis the season for dinner parties and making lots of food. But sometimes you need a little help when it comes to chopping and dicing. So NewsChannel5 wanted to put the Nicer Dicer to work to see if it can really make life easier in the kitchen. The "As Seen On TV" product claims to dice, chop or julienne fruit, vegetables, cheese, fresh herbs and a whole lot more in minutes even seconds. Not only that, the product claims you won't have the mess on your countertop anymore. The product consists of two interchangeable chopping handles that work like a nutcracker and catch chopped veggies in plastic bowls. The stainless steel cutting blades are also dishwasher-safe.Chef Eric Williams and his staff put the Nicer Dicer to the test, getting ingredients ready for three types of salsa and six types of guacamole. The potatoes slid through the blades with ease and quickly became hash browns. The peppers also popped right through, as did as the avocados. The chefs tried a tomato slice and garlic at the same time but that didn't quite work. The directions say tomatoes need to be skin-side down and cut in half. There are no directions for the onions, and the testers couldn't get them to dice. Williams pointed out the product does not mince, so it may be tough to get garlic into small pieces. But he said the product is still worth considering. "It's a good beginner set for someone who doesn't have the knife skills or the time."You can buy the Nicer Dicer online or in stores for around $20.
