Space Bags Claim To Triple Your Space

But Does It Really Do That?

Its a grueling process. Deciding what to keep and what to toss. With two young girls, sorting closets is an activity the Young family does frequently but what if they could store all of their sweaters and not waste space?

The As Seen on TV product Space Bags claims to nearly triple your space. But does it really do that? Sarah and Laura Young volunteered to clean out their closets to find out. First they folded clothes into several piles. Then they grabbed the Space Bags. Inside the box there were two large bags, one jumbo bag and a bonus travel bag. It says pack, seal, vacuum. The instructions say not to fill above indicated line.

The ladies decided to put all the kids' clothes in the jumbo bag and it lives up to its name. The bag could fit an entire wardrobe. When Sarah went to close the bag, the closer tab came off but she got it to slide right back on. When they measured the clothes, the bag stood 15 inches high. In order for it to actually triple the space it should shrink to 5 inches. They grabbed the vacuum and following the instructions. Within seconds, the fluffy sweaters turned into Shrinky Dinks. It didn't quite look like the photo when it was done. It was lumpy, and even though some parts of it shrank to 5 inches, others stayed as high as 9. They chalked it up to the different types of fabrics.

They decided to give it another test and stuffed a large size bag with two queen-size pillows. They admit it's harder than the commercial makes it out to be, but once again the items shrunk within seconds. The once 11-inch stack of pillows were suddenly an inch high. The final test was opening the bags to see what the clothes looked like after being in the bag for a while. To their surprise, the clothes went from being shrunk like a raisin right back to normal.

The Young family says they would use the Space Bags to create space and store items not in use. Some people have complained the Space Bags don't stay flattened over time. But the manufacturer recommends you double check the seals to make they're closed. The cost for a set of bags is $19.99.
