CLEVELAND -- Pasta is a staple you would likely find in most pantries. Most of us need a pot to boil the water, another for sauce, as well a strainer. Now there's a product that simplifies the process promising perfect pasta in your microwave. "Pasta N' More" is the "As Seen On TV" product that says it'll cook penne fast, easy and perfect every time.So NewsChannel5 reporter Joy Benedict took the Pasta N' More to the pasta professionals at Alesci's Downtown in Cleveland, where they cook up pounds of penne everyday.Alesci employee Lisa Barrett offered to give it a try. When Benedict and Barrett opened it up, they found a lot more pieces inside the little box then we expected including a little steam rack not to be used when cooking pasta. After reading, and re-reading the instructions, the pair determined we only needed the big pot for the pasta. They decided to cook what they called "two servings," which is one cup of dry penne. Each serving amount corresponds with a "fill-line" number, on the pot. So the testers filled up our pot, dumped in the pasta and started cooking. The instructions said the two servings took 19 minutes. When Barrett went to get the dish, she said it wasn't hot at all, which is not usually the case when you put a plastic container in the microwave. We snapped on the lid, which is also a strainer, and 10 seconds later had steaming hot pasta. The consensus was that it tasted OK but it took twice as long for just two servings. If you're a college kid or single person that's fine, but for a family of six it's not a time saver.Pasta N' More not only boils pasta but it steams vegetables, and potatoes. But you'll have to decide if it's worth $20.
