UPDATED: 6:13 pm EDT July 2, 2009

The Ohio Department of Transportation wants highway drivers to be safe while traveling and aware of possible construction this Fourth of July weekend.

Work is under way on state Route 8 from south of Twinsburg Road to north of the Interstate 271 interchange. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be available. Permanent work zone restrictions will remain in place, although work is suspended during the holiday weekend.

In Lorain County, Interstate 90 between state Route 2 and state Route 57 will have narrower lanes as part of a bridge rehabilitation project. Work zone restrictions will remain in place although work will not take place during the weekend.

Near Columbus on state Route 315, work is being done on several bridges, as well as road resurfacing, between Interstate 670 and North Broadway Street. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph in the work zone, and detours are posted for the several entrance and exit ramps that will be closed.

In downtown Dayton, work on Interstate 75 from Stanley Avenue southbound to Main Street will mean a speed limit of 45 mph and lane restrictions.

Major reconstruction is happening on north and southbound I-75 from Cincinnati-Dayton Road in Butler County to state Route 122 in Warren County. This includes the addition of a lane in each direction on I-75. Three reduced-width lanes in each direction are to be expected.
