An Akron business is offering a reward hoping to find the person who took off with the arm from a wooden sculpture.

The president of Williams Hardwood Flooring on West North Street said he hope someone will come forward so the carving can be complete.

The right arm of the sculpture of a carpenter should be holding a hammer, but a bandage is wrapped around it after the arm was stolen.

"Two white males came by at four in the morning and we believe they broke the arm off," said Williams Hardwood Flooring's Jim Leslie.

Leslie said he doesn't believe the suspects had too much time to do their work.

"We have a video and it's so quick of them coming in and out of the picture that they wouldn't have time to saw. I think they just broke it off," he said.

The company has put up a $500 reward for information about the theft.

"The reward is not for the arm, it's just for the guy who did it. And it's wrong and we're looking to spend the money to find out who did it, not to get the arm back," Leslie said.

Leslie said he hopes the people responsible feel bad about their actions.

"We know it was young people and young people sometimes do dumb things and maybe I'm hoping they have a little remorse after it's all over and wish they hadn't done it," he said.

The sculpture means so much to those who work here because it pays tribute to two employees.

"I feel like it's artwork, but if it's not able to be viewed, what's the point of having art?" Leslie said.

Akron police are using the company's surveillance video to see if they can break the case.

Leslie is also hopeful someone out there saw the vandals and will come forward and help police with their investigation.
