Summit County authorities are searching for a man they said they want off the streets.

Police said that Kirk Thornton will not hesitate to pull a trigger, firing a gun at two women early Wednesday morning, reported NewsChannel5's Jonathan Costen.

Police said that around 10 p.m. Tuesday on the west side of Akron, two women in their car spotted and recognized Thornton.

They talked and moved on, but police said that wasn't the last time the two women would encounter Thornton.

A few moments later, police said the victims spotted the suspect again near Grace and Orin streets, but this time few words were exchanged; instead, the suspect fired his gun at the victims, police said.

"When they got to their friend's around the corner they saw Thornton coming between the houses through the yards and he fired a shot at their car and he hit the trunk of their car and at that point he took off ," said Lt. Rick Edwards.

The two women weren't struck by the bullets, but police said they still fear what Thornton is capable of doing.

"I mean, he's not new to the system, Thornton is not new to the system. He's been arrested several times including weapons charges, mostly drug- and alcohol-related offenses," said Edwards.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Thornton should contact the Summit County Crime Stoppers at 330-434-COPS.

You can remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward.
