CLEVELAND -- Classified ad scams are on the rise, and one Lorain woman fell victim. The woman, who wanted to be identified only as Gloria, responded to an ad in the Lorain Morning Journal for a customer service representative. The company called Quality Consumer Research sent her several checks, asking her to keep some of the money and send the rest to them via Money Gram. All the checks bounced and now Gloria is on the hook for nearly $5,000."I just don't want this to happen to other people. This was horrible. I mean, not to mention I am already out of a job, now I have to pay this back and I have no money to pay it back. I shared the account with my mother and they already took her Social Security check," she said. The Cleveland Better Business Bureau said if you're looking for work, never give the prospective employer money for training or any other purpose. If they ask for a credit card account or for you to wire money, it's likely a scam.
