CLEVELAND -- For parents that find it difficult to have "the sex talk" with their children, a local exhibit might make that conversation easier, reported NewsChannel5's Tonya Strong.
Healthspace Cleveland now has the family tree greenhouse, which spells out the birds and the bees.Lee Gambol is a Healthspace educator who teaches classes of visiting fifth- and sixth-graders from local schools about how babies are made."And from the questions they ask us, it's amazing how much they either a) know, or b) think they know, because they see all sorts of sex on television, the cartoons they're watching, hints and innuendo," said Gambol. In a time when there are many consequences to sexual behavior, many parents feel it's best to be open and honest about how to handle the emotions of being a teenager. For children who are younger than 9 years old, educators suggest focusing on continuing discussions about good touch and bad touch, and the fact that nobody has the right to touch a child in a way that feels uncomfortable to him or her. Most importantly, parents need to find a way to make their children feel comfortable talking with them about sex.
