GAME NOTES: This Saturday afternoon at Buffalo Stadium, the Buffalo Bulls will host the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid-American Conference tussle. The Falcons come soaring into this matchup, winning three of their last four games, including two in a row. The last time BGSU was on the field the team collected a hard-fought 39-32 victory over Eastern Michigan. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 season the Falcons have done a commendable job against league foes, collecting an 18-12 ledger. As for the Bulls, they have lost two of their last three games, including a heart-breaking 31-28 setback to Miami-Ohio this past weekend. Buffalo is only 4-6 on the season, but at home the team has played much better, posting a 3-1 mark at Buffalo Stadium. This will be the final home game of the season for Buffalo, as the team will travel to Kent State next week to collide with the Golden Flashes. In terms of the all-time series between the two schools on the gridiron, the Falcons have won three consecutive meetings, including a thrilling, 48-40 triple-overtime matchup last season. Throughout the season the Falcons have relied heavily on their passing attack, as the team is producing 292.7 ypg through the air. Overall the squad is collecting a solid 414.7 total ypg, and that has led to 31.7 ppg. In the recent win over Eastern Michigan, the Falcons flew above the Eagles, racking up 419 total yards, including a whopping 226 yards via the pass. Tyler Sheehan was impressive in the win, throwing for 230 yards and one touchdown on 20- of-32 passing. Sheehan has been steady throughout this campaign, as the QB has completed 63.2 percent of his throws for 2,650 yards. In 10 games the signal- caller has tossed 18 touchdowns, while throwing just 11 interceptions. Shockingly in the triumph over EMU, the ground attack also put forth a solid effort as the squad terrorized the Eagles for 193 yards on 39 attempts. With Willie Geter battling an injured ankle, the team had three different players contribute to the success, beginning with Sheehan, who rushed for 65 yards and one score. Chris Bullock added 51 yards on five carries, while Anthony Turner rumbled for 49 yards and two scores. The main issue for Bowling Green defensively has been its inability to stuff the run, as the defense is currently being abused for a whopping 223.9 ypg on the ground. Overall the Falcons are being dismantled for 426.0 total ypg, and that has led to 32.7 ppg. Although the Falcons were able to slip past Eastern Michigan by seven points this past weekend, the team still had trouble defensively, allowing the Eagles to rack up 403 total yards, including a tremendous 269 yards via the run. Another surprising factor in the contest was that Bowling Green did not force one turnover and finished the game with zero sacks. On the season, the defense has been able to force 22 takeaways, but getting to the quarterback has been a huge problem, as the team has recorded just 17 sacks to date. John Haneline, who is leading the team with 96 tackles, missed last week's game with a foot injury and could be sidelined for the remainder of the season. In the three-point loss to Miami-Ohio this weekend, the Bulls struggled offensively, posting just 320 total yards. Buffalo only threw for 217 yards in the contest, which is shocking considering Buffalo has used its passing game as its main source of offensive production. Quarterback Drew Willy, who threw for the 217 yards, also tossed two touchdowns on 33-of-45 passing. Willy has been impressive throughout most of the season, completing 68.1 percent of his attempts for 2,028 yards and 12 scores against six INTs. As for the rushing attack, the main option out of the backfield has been James Starks, who has rushed for 912 yards and 11 scores on 4.3 ypc. Starks had a solid performance in the loss to Miami, rushing for 148 yards and one TD on 19 totes. Although the Bulls only lost by three this past weekend, the defense performance was simply atrocious, as Buffalo was terrorized for 475 total yards, including 216 yards on 39 carries. Limiting the run has been a problem for Buffalo throughout the year, as the unit heads into this matchup surrendered 172.9 ypg. Overall, the defense for the Bulls has had a tough campaign, yielding 405.3 total ypg, which has led to 27.7 ppg. In the matchup against Miami, the defense was able to force two turnovers, but could not get to the quarterback, finishing the game with zero sacks. Reaching the opposing signal-caller has been an issue for Buffalo all year, as the team has recorded just 17 sacks in 10 games. Davonte Shannon has been terrific for the Bulls this season, collecting a team-high 91 tackles, to go along with 5.5 TFLs, two sacks and three interceptions. Both teams rely heavily on their passing attacks, so expect to see plenty of fireworks in this battle. Last season it took three overtimes to determine a winner, and this year's matchup should be just as thrilling.
