Syracuse Brings Back Robinson

POSTED: 5:42 pm EST November 28, 2007

(Sports Network) - Greg Robinson will return as Syracuse's head football coach in 2008.

Athletic director Daryl Gross committed to giving Robinson a fourth year on Wednesday, even though Robinson has led the Orange to their worst three-year stretch in school history.

"As the Director of Athletics for Syracuse University, it is my responsibility to evaluate, assess, and make informed decisions regarding the University's intercollegiate athletic programs," Gross said. "I have evaluated our football program now that the 2007 season has concluded and want to make clear that Greg Robinson remains Syracuse University's head football coach.

"Nevertheless, I have set a bar of significant expectations for all of our programs, and like our players, fans, and supporters, I was very disappointed with the outcome of this season, along with our overall record the past three years."

Robinson's teams have gone 1-10, 4-8 and 2-10 and he is just 7-28 overall and 2-19 in the Big East in his three years at the school.

"Like our players, coaches, and fans, I was very frustrated and disappointed with the outcome of this season," Robinson said. "Since the day after the 2006 season ended, I fully committed myself, our coaches and players to the goal of building on our progress and producing a successful 2007 season for our program and the Syracuse football community. As such, I had substantial expectations coming into this season -- expectations that were not met. As head coach, I take full responsibility for that, as I should.

"I have had extensive discussions with Daryl and others in recent days about the future of our football program. I am committed to doing whatever it takes for our program to improve and regain the confidence of our community in 2008. There are clearly a number of key areas in which we need to make substantial progress. At the same time, I am evaluating what changes we need to make as a coaching staff to maximize the substantial talent we have on our roster to achieve success."
