NCAA Game Summary - Arizona State At Oregon State

Corvallis, OR -- Despite throwing three interceptions, Derek
Anderson converted 15-of-29 pass attempts for 246 yards and two scores,
plus another touchdown on the ground, leading the Oregon State Beavers to a
45-17 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils in a Pacific-10 tilt. Steven Jackson finished the contest with 105 yards and one score on 26 carries
for Oregon State (4-1, 1-0 PAC-10), while Dwight Wright Jr. contributed with
58 yards on 10 rushing attempts. Although Andrew Walter threw two touchdowns, he had a subpar game, connecting
on just 17-of-42 pass attempts for 231 and three interceptions in the Sun
Devils' loss. Hakim Hill played a tremendous game for Arizona State (2-2, 0-1 PAC-10),
rushing for 115 yards on 24 carries while leading the squad with six
receptions for 92 yards. The Beavers drew first blood during the opening quarter when Anderson rumbled
into the end zone on a six-yard run. The Sun Devils evened the score midway through the second period when Walter
hit Skyler Fulton with a five-yard touchdown pass. Oregon State answered back, scoring 17-unanswered points before halftime.
Anderson hit Kevin Farley with a 61-yard scoring strike, pushing the Beavers'
lead back to seven points at 14-7. Then, James Newsome was on the receiving
end of a 28-yard touchdown pass from Anderson, extending the Oregon State
advantage to 21-7. Kirk Yliniemi split the uprights on a 29-yard field goal as time expired in
the first half, giving Oregon State a commanding 24-7 lead going into the
break. Jesse Ainsworth nailed a 34-yard field goal with under two minutes remaining
in the third quarter, cutting the Sun Devils' deficit to 24-10. Oregon State dominated the fourth quarter, scoring three touchdowns to
solidify its victory. Jackson scored on a 15-yard run with 11:09 left in the
final period and Keller Christensen recovered a Sun Devil fumble in the end
zone, pushing the Beavers' lead to 38-10. Andre Walter's 20-yard scoring streak to David Hagan cut the Sun Devils
deficit to 21, but the Beavers added another score when Wright Jr. rumbled
into the end zone from two yards out, finalizing the 45-17 victory.
