NCAA Game Summary - Ball State At Northern Illinois

POSTED: 10:26 pm EST November 24, 2007

(Sports Network) - Nate Davis threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, as he led the Ball State Cardinals to a 27-21 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies in a Mid-American Conference tussle at Huskie Stadium.

Davis also scored one touchdown on the ground for Ball State (7-5, 5-2 MAC), while Dante Love grabbed nine passes for 135 yards in the win.

The Huskies (2-10, 1-6) were led by quarterback Ryan Morris, who threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

The Cardinals took an early 3-0 lead thanks to a 46-yard field goal from Ian McGarvey.

The Huskies capped off a 15-play, 70-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown pass from Morris to Greg Turner.

Seconds into the second stanza Ball State reclaimed the lead when Davis hit Darius Hill with a seven-yard scoring strike.

Minutes later Ball State pushed its lead to 17-7 when Davis plunged into the end zone from the one yard line.

A two-yard touchdown run by David Bryant with just seconds remaining in the first half cut the Huskies' deficit to 17-14 as the two teams went into the intermission.

After a scoreless third quarter, Davis connected with Ray Winkler on a six-yard scoring strike early in the final stanza, pushing Ball State's lead to 24-14.

A 28-yard field goal by McGarvey midway through the fourth quarter extended the Cardinals' lead to 27-14.

Late in the fourth quarter Morris hit Evans Adonis with a 25-yard scoring strike, but that would be as close as NIU would come to mounting a comeback, as the team fell, 27-21.
