NCAA Game Summary - Akron At Kent State

POSTED: 5:10 pm EDT October 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - Chris Jacquemain threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Akron Zips to a thrilling, 30-27 double-overtime victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in Mid-American Conference action at Dix Stadium.

Jacquemain also struggled in the win for Akron (3-3, 1-1 MAC), as the signal caller tossed three interceptions and was sacked twice.

Julian Edelman did it all for KSU (1-5, 0-2), as the quarterback threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while also pacing the team with 113 yards on 18 carries.

It did not take the Zips long to get on the scoreboard, as Jacquemain connected with Andre Jones on a 29-yard scoring strike.

Kent State evened the score at 7-7 late in the opening frame when Edelman tossed a one-yard TD pass to Justin Thompson.

A 33-yard field goal by Igor Iveljic in the final seconds of the first quarter gave the Zips a 10-7 edge.

The Golden Flashes regained the lead early in the second stanza when Edelman hit Shawn Bayes with a 14-yard scoring strike.

Late in the first half the Flashes pushed their lead to 21-10 when Jacquise Terry plunged into the end zone from the one yard line.

The Zips stormed out of the gates in the second half, and a one-yard touchdown run by Dennis Kennedy cut Akron's deficit to 21-17.

With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, the Zips took a 24-21 lead over KSU, thanks to a 24-yard touchdown pass from Jacquemain to Deryn Bowser.

The Golden Flashes never gave up, however, as the team found a way into Akron's territory and eventually tied the game at 24 apiece with a 32-yard field goal by Nate Reed.

Reed struck again in the first overtime, as the kicker nailed a 34-yard field goal for KSU. However, the Zips answered with their own field goal, as Iveljic split the uprights on a 32-yard kick.

In the second extra session, Iveljic chipped in a 25-yard field goal to give the Zips a three-point edge. The Flashes had a chance to tie the score once again, but Reed's 23-yard field goal attempt was no good, as Akron held on for the 30-27 victory.
