Bowling Green, OH -- (Sports Network) - Bowling Green has named Dave Clawson its new head football coach.Clawson spent this past season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Tennessee, following a nine-year run as a head coach at the Football Championship Subdivision level with Richmond and Fordham. He has a record of 58-49 as a head coach. "Dave's experience as a head coach impressed all of us," said Bowling Green athletic director Greg Christopher. "Not just the winning records, but all aspects of how he ran his programs. Dave inherits a solid foundation. He's the right person to take our student-athletes to the next level." Clawson has also been an assistant at Villanova, Lehigh, Buffalo and Albany in a 20-year coaching career. "It is an honor and a thrill to be given this opportunity to coach football at Bowling Green State University," said Clawson. "To be named the head coach of a football program that is filled with a rich history is a dream come true. The ability to work at a first-rate academic school and to compete in a conference that is competitive year in and year out excites me to be a Falcon. I look forward to continuing the tradition at Bowling Green State University." The Falcons needed a replacement for Gregg Brandon, whose contract was not renewed after a 6-6 2008 campaign. In six years under Brandon, Bowling Green posted a record of 44-30 overall with a 31-17 mark in the Mid-American Conference and went to three bowl games.
