NCAA Game Summary - Bowling Green At Northern Illinois

DeKalb, IL -- (Sports Network) - Mike Salerno kicked a 30-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Northern Illinois Huskies to a 16-13 win over the Bowling Green Falcons in Mid-American Conference action at Huskie Stadium. Chandler Harnish completed only 5-of-12 passes for 45 yards and two interceptions for NIU (5-3, 4-1 MAC). However, he did lead the team with 113 rushing yards on 19 carries. Me'co Brown carried 20 times for 95 yards. Bowling Green (3-5, 1-3) quarterback Tyler Sheehan went 15-of-21 for 92 yards and a touchdown. Salerno booted a 52-yard field goal at the 10:33 mark of the first quarter to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Falcons kicker Sinisa Vrvilo tied it up with a 29-yarder later in the quarter. Vrvilo tacked on a 20-yarder midway through the second quarter, as the Falcons would later head to the locker room with a 6-3 halftime lead. NIU put together a 17-play, 80-yard drive that chewed up 10 minutes of the third quarter. Chad Spann capped the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. But Bowling Green answered right back with an eight-play, 69-yard drive, punctuated by Sheehan's 18-yard scoring strike to Marques Parks. Salerno kicked a 25-yarder to tie the score at 13 with 8:08 remaining in the fourth quarter. NIU blocked a punt with five minutes remaining, and the Huskies took over possession at the Bowling Green 37. They were able to run down the clock and set up Salerno's game-winner. The Huskies finished with 233 rushing yards (4.1 ypc) for the game.
