GAME NOTES: The Mid-American Conference gets some national exposure on Wednesday evening, as the Miami-Ohio RedHawks go on the road to take on the Bowling Green Falcons from Perry Stadium. There hasn't been a lot to cheer about for RedHawk fans this year, as the team has recorded just one win against nine defeats. That one victory came on October 14th and the team has dropped three straight games, including a November 4th heartbreaker at Western Michigan (27-24), the last time the team took to the field. Bowling Green also struggled this season, but to a lesser extent. The team is 3-3 in MAC play, but just 4-6 on the season overall. The Falcons have also dropped three consecutive games, including a 35-28 setback at Akron on November 4th. This is the 63rd all-time meeting between these two teams with Miami-Ohio holding a 38-19-5 advantage. Last season, BGSU stormed into Oxford and left with a 42-14 rout in hand.

The RedHawks have been able to move the football through the air this season (246.9 ypg), but a lot of that has to do with the team's inability to move the chains on the ground (83.9 ypg). Quarterback Mike Kokal has played to mixed reviews under center, completing nearly 60 percent of his passes, for 2,109 yards. However, he has thrown just 11 touchdown passes thus far, with seven interceptions. Wideout Ryne Robinson has certainly done his best to put the team in the win column game-in and game-out, hauling in an eye-popping 74 balls, for 1,001 yards and seven TDs. Imagine how much more effective Robinson could be downfield, if opponents respected the rushing attack. Andre Bratton is the top performer on the ground, but has netted just 284 yards and four TDs on 62 total carries.

Defensively, the RedHawks have done a decent job against the pass on the surface (163.6 ypg), but that is due in large part to the inability to stop anyone on the ground. Foes are actually averaging more yards rushing (164.8 ypg) than passing against this team. The unit does have 19 takeaways to its credit, but only 17 sacks. Senior safety Joey Card has led the charge on this side of the football, with 81 total tackles. Another playmaker on this side of the football is sophomore MLB Joey Hudson, who has 71 tackles and a team-high five interceptions. Defensive ends Tranaine Sills and Joe Coniglio are tied for the team-lead in sacks (four) and provide the most push up front.

The Falcons haven't been impressive on the offensive side of the ball either this year. The team is averaging 20.6 ppg and relies heavily on the rushing attack to move the ball up and down the field. One of the better rushing teams in the nation, BGSU is netting almost 200 yards per game (191.5), on 4.3 yards per carry. Redshirt freshman tailback Chris Bullock leads the team in rushing (728 yards) on 5.1 yards per carry. He is netting just over 80 yards per game and has scored four TDs. Another redshirt freshman, H-back Freddie Barnes adds just over 40 yards per game and has scored a team-high nine TDs. QB Anthony Turner adds a third dimension to the ground assault, with 46.2 yards per game. He has scored four times on the ground, while throwing eight TD passes. Turner has completed 57 percent of his passes, for 1,252 yards. Sophomore Corey Pattridge is the top threat downfield, with a team-high 36 receptions, for 420 yards and two TDs.

The Falcons have faltered defensively as well this year, allowing a generous 30.0 ppg. Still, the team is yielding just 330.4 yards of total offense, so there is reason to hope for the future. Sophomore linebacker Erique Dozier and senior LB Terrel White are tied for the team-lead in terms of tackles with 85 total stops. The pair have combined for 17 TFLs and six sacksSenior rush end Devon Parks currently leads the team in both of those categories, getting upfield to record 12.5 TFLs and eight sacks. Sophomore cornerback Kenny Lewis (65 tackles) leads the team with four picks, followed by freshman safety Jerett Sanderson (58 tackles), who has three INTs.

The RedHawks have suffered through a truly horrendous season and thankfully it will come to a close soon. Bowling Green still has a chance at a .500 season and will move one step closer to that goal with a win in this one.
