NCAA Game Summary - Central Michigan At Akron

POSTED: 3:57 pm EST November 23, 2007

(Sports Network) - A one-yard touchdown run by Dan LeFevour with 1:31 remaining proved to be the game winner as the Central Michigan Chippewas posted a 35-32 win over the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference action at the Rubber Bowl.

LeFevour finished the afternoon with two rushing touchdowns and two passing scores for the Chippewas (6-5, 5-1 MAC) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. The signal-caller carried the ball 16 times for a team-best 132 yards and converted 33-of-54 for 382 yards, was sacked once and intercepted twice in the decision.

The Zips (4-7, 3-4) were paced by Bryan Williams who ran for a game-high 145 yards and scored twice on 18 carries. Chris Jacquemain hit on 23-of-38 passing for 210 yards, one touchdown and one pick while shaking off four sacks on the afternoon.

Akron scored the only points of the first quarter when Williams sprinted 61 yards into the end zone to give the home team a 7-0 advantage.

CMU's Ontario Sneed then capped a nine-play, 57-yard drive for the Chippewas with a five-yard TD run of his own to knot the score at 7-7 midway through the second frame.

Alex Allen's one-yard TD run put the Zips back out in front once again at the 2:29 mark of the second, but a failed PAT left the host squad with a 13-7 edge.

Just seconds later it was LeFevour who broke the plane of the goal line for the first time on a 43-yard scamper, and with the successful point-after it left the Chippewas with a one-point advantage at the break.

In the third frame Akron surged ahead 26-14, thanks to a 56-yard TD run by Williams and a fumble recovery by Andre Jones that he brought back 64 yards for the score less than a minute later.

LeFevour put together a seven-play, 85-yard drive shortly thereafter, culminating with a 27-yard scoring strike from the signal-caller to Bryan Anderson to make the score 26-20 after a failed PAT.

Merce Poindexter's seven-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter pushed the Akron lead out to double digits, but again the squad failed to capitalize on a two-point attempt, resulting in a 32-20 score with just over eight minutes to play.

LeFevour and the Chippewas then went to work in the final minutes, first getting into the end zone on a 30-yard strike to Kito Poblah with just under seven minutes remaining and then completed the comeback with the late scoring run to steal away the three-point decision.

Central Michigan rolled up a hefty 639 yards of total offense, compared to just 323 yards for the Zips.
