Kyle Coston had 12 points, while Andre Murray scored 10 in the victory. Divaldo Mbunga led Montana State (14-17) with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Branden Johnson contributed 17 in the loss. The Bobcats gradually got back into the game, and Mbunga's layup made it a 74-70 game with just over four minutes to play. Montana State pulled within two with 1:47 left on a Mbunga jumper. Thomas' free throw put the Vikings back ahead by three with 1:25 to go, but Johnson's three pointer with 11.0 seconds left tied the game at 77. Dominic Waters fed a wide-open Thomas down low, and he easily dunked the ball for a two-point lead with 3.5 seconds on the clock. Bobby Howard failed to get a shot off in the final seconds, and Portland State held on for the victory. A back-and-forth first half ended with the Vikings holding a 40-39 edge.
