NCAA Game Summary - Nebraska At Ole Miss

POSTED: 12:57 am EDT March 25, 2008

(Sports Network) - Chris Warren scored 18 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers in overtime, 85-75, in the second round of the NIT at Tad Smith Coliseum.

Eniel Polynice added 15 points and five assists to the Ole Miss (23-10) attack, which means the second-seeded squad will now confront Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals later this week. Kenny Williams and Zach Graham each tallied 14 points and Dwayne Curtis 10 to go along with his eight rebounds.

The third-seeded Cornhuskers (20-13) were paced by Aleks Maric who scored 18 points and pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds, but the center was also guilty of seven turnovers. Ade Dagunduro tacked on 16 points, Steve Harley 14 and Jay-R Strowbridge 11 points off the bench.

Both teams shot the ball well from the field in the first half, but thanks to a 64.3 percent effort by Ole Miss, the home team held a 40-36 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Rebels dropped all the way down to just 34.5 percent shooting from the field, which allowed Nebraska to come back and tie the score at 70-70. With five-tenths of a second remaining in regulation the Rebels had a chance to pull out a thrilling win, but a well-designed inbounds play resulted in a missed layup attempt at the buzzer.

The Huskers made just one of their eight field goal attempts in the overtime session and also converted a mere 2-of-6 at the free-throw line, allowing Ole Miss to capture the 10-point decision.

In a game that saw five ties and nine lead changes, Ole Miss outscored the Huskers in the paint, 48-34.
