NCAA Game Summary - Fordham At Villanova

POSTED: 12:33 am EST November 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Dante Cunningham scored a game-best 31 points to go along with 11 rebounds, as No. 23 Villanova blasted Fordham, 107-68, in non-conference action at the Pavilion.

"We need Dante to be a scorer. He has had some good scoring games but he hasn't done it consistently because he doesn't ask for it. As a coaching staff we have to demand it too. He can really score in a lot of ways," Villanova head coach Jay Wright said.

Corey Stokes collected 17 points with eight rebounds, backcourt mate Corey Fisher also scored 17 points and Antonio Pena added 10. The Wildcats (2-0) took home a 40-plus point victory with its best player, Scottie Reynolds, mustering just 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting.

Brenton Butler scored 17 points, Jio Fontan donated 13 points and Trey Blue netted 11 for the Rams (0-2), who never seriously threatened throughout the contest.

Butler's trey tied the score at 5-5, the last time the game was knotted. Cunningham's layup pushed the edge to 23-14, and two Stokes free throws made the score 30-16.

A layup by Cunningham off one of Villanova's six steals extended the advantage to 34-16 and capped an extended 15-2 stretch. Cunningham continued to be at the center of the action, draining a jumper for a 50-28 lead, and Villanova took a 56-38 edge into the locker room.

A Reynolds' three and Pena fastbreak dunk pushed the score to 74-48, and the rout was on from there.
