(Sports Network) - Kevin Tiggs scored a game-high 19 points and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers came up with a few late defensive stops to post a 65-62 win over the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars in the consolation round of the Charleston Classic.

Courtney Pigram recorded a double-double for ETSU (1-1), scoring 12 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Mike Smith finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals in helping the Buccaneers to their first win.

Mark Yelovich paced SIU-Edwardsville with 15 points, while Aamir McCleary scored 12, and Barry Wellington finished with 10.

The teams traded baskets for the first 10 minutes of the game, but ETSU pulled ahead with a 13-3 run. The Bucs shot 16-of-32 from the floor in the first half to take a 40-35 lead into the locker room.

Both teams cooled off in the second stanza, particularly the Cougars, who shot just 1-of-13 from beyond the arc. ETSU was clinging to a 62-60 lead with 26 seconds to play, when Smith came up with a huge steal. He missed a layup, but Tiggs followed with a thunderous dunk to give the Bucs a two-possession lead with 22 seconds to play.

ETSU managed to win despite committing 20 turnovers, which led to 21 points for the Cougars.
