No. 7 Blue Devils Top Duquesne

(Sports Network) - Lance Thomas, a perfect eight for eight from the field, came off the bench to score 21 points and Kyle Singler added 17 to lead the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils to a 95-72 win over Duquesne at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Duke's Nolan Smith scored 11 points while Singler led Duke with seven rebounds and Thomas grabbed six boards.

The Blue Devils next play a pair of Big Ten teams, on the road against Purdue on Tuesday and Michigan on December 6.

"We came out today and played with excitement from the jump," said Smith. "We knew today was going to be a big game going into next week's game, so we just wanted to set the momentum going into next week. I'm proud of our effort today."

Duquesne was led in scoring by Damian Saunders with 22 and Aaron Jackson added 14. Saunders also paced the Dukes with 10 rebounds.

Duke never trailed in the battle of unbeaten teams. However, Duquesne stayed with the Blue Devils early, trailing by 5-4 with 17:51 to play in the first half. The closest the Dukes got was 9-6 at the 16:53 mark before the Blue Devils went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-6 lead.

Duke (7-0) methodically opened its advantage over Duquesne to lead by 18, 42-24, with 2:28 to play in the half. The Blue Devils went into the locker room with a 52-32 lead over Duquesne (4-1).

Thomas paced the Blue Devils with 12 first half points along with nine points from Singler and eight each from John Scheyer and Smith.

Saunders led Duquesne with 10 points and Eric Evans chipped in seven during the first half.

Early in the second half Duke led 61-34 with 17:09 to go. The Blue Devils' lead grew to 71-40 at the 13:31 mark on a Greg Paulus three-pointer. Thomas scored seven straight points for Duke to bring the lead to 78-42 with 12:09 to play.

Singler's dunk gave the Blue Devils an 87-48 lead with 7:49 left to play.

The Dukes got to within 92-71 with less than a minute to play before the Blue Devils closed the contest with a 95-72 victory.

Game Notes

Duke has won 64 straight games versus non-conference opponents at Cameron...The Blue Devils have won 13 straight affairs against members of the Atlantic-10 and are 75-27 all-time against current members of the conference...This was the seventh-all-time meeting between these two teams. Duke has won four of the previous five matchups, including all three in Durham.
