Troy (3-4) At Dayton (6-0)
GAME NOTES: The Dayton Flyers will try to continue their amazing start to the season when they host the Troy Trojans this evening at UD Arena in a non- conference collision. The Trojans come into this matchup reeling after an embarrassing, 92-57 loss to LSU. The setback snapped a three-game winning streak for Troy, which rebounded from a slow 0-3 start to the season. After this matchup the Trojans will open their Sun Belt Conference schedule on the road against Middle Tennessee. As for the Flyers, they have been unstoppable thus far, winning their first six matchups of the season. The last time Dayton was on the court the team pulled off an outstanding, 89-75 victory over the 15th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles, claiming the title of the Chicago Invitational. This is the third consecutive victory for the Flyers against a powerhouse team from the Big East, as Dayton took care of Pittsburgh and Louisville last year. This will be the first-ever meeting between Troy and Dayton on the hardwood.
The Trojans have looked lost at times at the defensive end of the floor, which would explain why the team is surrendering a whopping 81.7 ppg. The poor defensive play has overshadowed the team's strong showing offensively, as the team is producing 79.3 ppg, while shooting 44.7 percent from the floor. Richard Delk has been solid for the most part, as the guard is netting 13.7 ppg, while also collecting 4.7 rpg. Brandon Hazzard is averaging 11.3 ppg thus far, while Regis Huddleston is contributing 10.1 ppg, despite shooting 37.1 percent from the floor. The defensive woes for Troy continued in the team's recent loss to LSU, as the Trojans surrendered 92 points to the Tigers. Unfortunately the team was not much better at the offensive end of the court, shooting just 34.4 percent from the floor, while netting just 8-of-24 three- point attempts. Hazzard was the lone player in double-figures, finishing the game with 16 points.
The Flyers' perfect start to the season can be attributed to the team's play defensively, as Dayton is holding opponents to just 52.7 ppg, and just 34.0 percent shooting from the floor. Offensively, the team has not been overwhelming, netting just 68.7 ppg, but the Flyers have done enough to keep away from the loss column. Chris Wright is leading the team with 13.8 ppg, and is also collecting a sensational 8.8 rpg. Marcus Johnson is the only other player netting double figures, as the guard is chipping in 11.3 ppg. Surprisingly the last time Dayton was on the court, the Flyers surrendered 75 points to Marquette, and despite the large amount of points allowed, they were still victorious. Rob Lowery led the way with 21 points in the win, while Wright added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Chris Johnson also posted a double- double in the win, netting 12 points to go along with 11 boards.
The Flyers are far too disciplined at both ends of the floor, and should have no trouble against a weak Troy squad, especially at home.
