Dayton Upends Marquette

(Sports Network) - Rob Lowery scored 21 points to pace Dayton to an 89-75 win over 15th-ranked Marquette in the finale of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

Chris Wright had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Flyers (6-0), who also got 12 points and 11 boards from Chris Johnson. Dayton shot 52.6 percent from the field and dominated Marquette by a 56-43 scoring margin in the second half, thanks to 17-of-29 shooting over the final 20 minutes.

Wesley Matthews had 28 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles (5-1), who also got 19 points from Dominic James and 16 from Jerel McNeal.

A three-point play by Matthews drew Marquette within 40-38 with 17:19 remaining, but the Flyers went on an ensuing 7-1 run, capped by Johnson's layup.

Wright's layup opened a double-digit lead at 56-46 with 12:19 to go, and Marquette never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Kurt Huelsman's two free throws culminated seven straight Dayton points for a 17-9 lead, but Dayton's lead was just 33-32 at halftime.

Game Notes

Marquette was 4-of-20 from three-point range...The Golden Eagles finished at 39.3 percent from the field.
