POSTED: 12:01 am EDT March 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - Brian Roberts scored 21 points to lead the third-seeded Dayton Flyers to a 66-57 win over the sixth-seeded Cleveland State Vikings in first-round action of the NIT at Dayton Arena.

Kurt Huelsman also added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Flyers (22-10), who will move on to face Illinois State in the second round on Monday night. Andres Sandoval and Marcus Johnson each scored 11 points in the win.

The Vikings (21-13) were paced by Cedric Jackson, who scored 11 points on just 3-of-10 shooting from the floor. D'Aundray Brown and Joe Davis each added 10 points in the loss.

Dayton stormed out of the locker room, shooting 65 percent from the floor in the first half, to take a 38-30 lead at the break.

The Flyers turned up the defense in the second stanza, holding the Vikings to eight field goals over the final 20 minutes to pull out the win.

Dayton is no stranger to the NIT. The Flyers are making their 21st appearance, having won the tournament championship in 1962 and 1968.
