NCAA Game Summary - Coppin State At Kansas

POSTED: 1:55 am EST November 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Cole Aldrich had 23 points and 11 rebounds as the 22nd-ranked Kansas Jayhawks crushed the Coppin State Eagles, 85-53, at Allen Fieldhouse.

Brady Morningstar had 21 points and seven rebounds while Sherron Collins chipped in 11 points and eight assists for the Jayhawks (4-1), who bounced back from their loss to Syracuse on Tuesday.

"We came out pretty hard. We came out playing really good defense, rebounded well and moved the ball around, but then we hit a little slump," said Aldrich. "We let them come back and then the second half was a little tough. Our defense in the second half wasn't good and that's one thing we are really going to emphasize before we play Monday night."

Tywain McKee had 17 points and was the only player to score in double-digits for the Eagles (1-2), who have dropped their past two games.

"I love playing against the big-time schools," said McKee. "It gives me and our team a lot of good looks. I wouldn't mind playing all of our games on the road against the big-time schools."

Kansas took control of the game early. After Coppin State got the first two points, the Jayhawks ran off 16 straight points with Tyshawn Taylor netting eight of those points.

The Jayhawks later ripped off 11 unanswered points and eventually took a 41-17 lead into the break.

The Eagles got as close as 17 points in the second half when Ceslovas Kucinskas drained a three-pointer a little over eight minutes in to make it a 57-40 game.

The Jayhawks, though, later scored 10 straight points to dash any homes Coppin State had of pulling off the upset.

Game Notes:

Kansas hosts Kent State on Monday...Taylor finished with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds...Kansas has defeated Coppin State in the two games that the schools faced each other...Kansas shot 52.7 percent, compared to just 39.3 percent for Coppin State, and dominated on the boards, 46-21.
