Mount Pleasant, MI -- (Sports Network) - Spencer Laurie's 15 points paced the Missouri State Bears in a 60-57 non-conference victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas at Rose Arena. Chris Cooks and Cardell McFarland scored 14 points apiece for the Bears (1-1), who lost 11 of 13 road games a year ago. Kyle Weems scored 10 in the win. Jeremy Allen led all scorers with 20 points for CMU (1-1). Robbie Harman knocked down 6-of-12 three-pointers and finished with 18 points. CMU was cold in the first half, shooting 34.6 percent from floor and sinking just 3-of-7 free throws. Meanwhile, the Bears knocked down 10-of-13 foul shots en route to a 34-24 halftime lead. Missouri State was held to 5-of-14 shooting from the floor in the second stanza, but again, free-throw shooting proved to be the difference. The Bears held a 16-4 scoring edge at the foul line over the final 20 minutes to secure the win. Despite struggling from the floor for much of the game, the Bears led by as many as 15 midway through the second half. That was largely because CMU committed 20 turnovers in the game, which led to 20 points for Missouri State.
