GAME NOTES: The Cal State Northridge Matadors continue their lengthy six-game road trip tonight as they battle the Drexel Dragons at the Daskalakis Center in Philadelphia. Since winning the first game of the 2008-09 season against Cal Lutheran at home, the Matadors have dropped every outing. The squad is currently suffering through a four-game slide that saw it bow to Rider on Saturday in an 85-72 final. As for the Dragons, they've been out of action since November 22nd when they were crushed by nationally-ranked Georgetown, 81-53, in the nation's capital. Four days earlier, Drexel kicked off the new season with a narrow 66-64 triumph versus crosstown foe Penn. This game represents the first-ever meeting between these two programs.

Tremaine Townsend dropped in 20 points for the Matadors on Saturday versus the Broncs, but his efforts were not nearly enough to keep the visitors out of the loss column yet again. Joining Townsend in double figures were Matthew Wallace and Willie Galick as the duo accounted for 16 and 13 points, respectively. Wallace did all of his damage in a mere 14 minutes off the bench, converting 3-of-7 behind the three-point line while the rest of the squad was a combined 4-of-19 out on the perimeter. The Matadors have had a different leading scorer in each of the last four games, which doesn't bode well for consistency on the road. Josh Jenkins, who led the group in the first two games with 16 and 20- point efforts, continues to lead overall with 12.4 ppg, but Townsend is now close behind at 12.3 ppg and is also the leader on the glass with almost eight rebounds per contest. Galick (12.0 ppg) is converting a sizzling 65.7 percent of his shots and is collecting better than five and a half rebounds, but those numbers still don't cover up the fact that he has 16 turnovers and just four assists.

Against the Hoyas in the most recent game, Drexel was simply no match as it shot a woeful 6-of-31 from the field in the second half of a 28-point loss. Scott Rodgers accounted for 13 points, one of four players to score in double figures, while Jamie Harris checked in with 12 points and six boards in the losing effort. Gerald Colds and Tramayne Hawthorne chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, but they each shot only 3-of-10 from the floor for a team that was just 24.5 percent accurate on the afternoon. After just two games Rodgers is the leading scorer for the group with his 13.0 ppg, but he has made a mere 34.8 percent of his field goal attempts and is 1-of-7 beyond the arc. as a team the Dragons are a feeble 31.3 percent from the floor, which is actually worse than the 31.6 percent accuracy they've shown behind the three-point line in the early going. Defensively, Drexel has limited its two foes to 27.5 percent out on the perimeter.

Being out of action for so long has given the Dragons plenty of time to prepare for Northridge, and even though the Matadors are suffering through a long road trip, they can see the light at the end of the tunnel and may give Drexel a run tonight.

Predicted Outcome

Cal State Northridge 67, Drexel 64
