NCAA Game Summary - Cal State Northridge At Rider

POSTED: 6:04 pm EST November 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Ryan Thompson scored 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds -- both game-highs -- as the Rider Broncs defeated the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 85-72, in a non-league matchup at Alumni Gymnasium.

Harris Mansell chipped in with 14 points and six rebounds for the Broncs (3-1), who have now won three straight since a season-opening loss to Saint Joseph's. Mike Ringgold (nine rebounds) and Novar Gadson (seven rebounds) each scored 10 in the win.

Tremaine Townsend paced Northridge (1-4) with 20 points and six boards. Matthew Wallace scored 16 off the bench, while Willie Galick filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Matadors' only lead was 2-0, as they shot just 38.2 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed, 41-31 at the break.

Rider went up by as many as 17 midway through the second half, using a 16- of-19 effort at the foul line over the final 20 minutes to secure the double- digit win.

The Matadors were content to stay in their half-court sets and launch three- pointers throughout the game, but they had little success. Northridge finished the game 6-of-26 (23.1 percent) from beyond the arc, and did not record any fast-break points.
