GAME NOTES: The Cal State Fullerton Titans try to snap a three-game slide today as they close out their portion of the 76 Classic against the Charlotte 49ers at the Anaheim Convention Center. Since defeating Hawaii and Hope International in back-to-back outings, the Titans have lost three in a row. The most recent of those setbacks came on Friday in a disappointing 79-54 effort versus Saint Mary's in this tournament. As for the 49ers, they won their first game of the season against UNC Greensboro, but since then has dropped every decision. Two nights ago the squad was taken out by Providence by a score of 67-62, which was a huge improvement from a day earlier when the squad was crushed by nationally-ranked Arizona State by 28 points. Of the team's other four setbacks, they came by a combined 11 points. With respect to the all-time series between these two teams, this is the first-ever meeting.

RaShad Coleman came off the bench to shoot 3-of-5 behind the three-point line and 8-of-12 from the floor to account for his 19 points in the loss to Providence on Friday. Lamont Mack added 12 points, but turned the ball over five times, the team suffering 21 miscues altogether. DiJuan Harris managed only two points, but made up for it somewhat with 10 assists, six rebounds and five steals. Coleman, who has led the team in scoring the last two games, is averaging 10.5 ppg, even though he is shooting a mere 7-of-28 behind the three-point line. Mack is posting 12.7 ppg as the leading scorer for the program, but he is doing so despite converting a mere 32.4 percent from the floor and 22.2 percent beyond the arc. Between Mack and Coleman there are a mere eight assists and a total of 19 turnovers.

Fullerton shot just 38.7 percent from the field in the first half, but if the team thought that was poor, it was even worse in the second half when the squad converted only 29.2 percent from the floor. Shooting just 3-of-11 behind the three-point line, Josh Akognon still came up with 24 points, followed by Marcio Lassiter with 12 points. As a team the Titans made a mere 5-of-23 shots behind the three-point line. Akognon, the leading scorer in all but one of the team's six games thus far, is producing a hefty 24.2 ppg, thanks in part to his 20-of-22 effort at the charity stripe. Of the team's 43 made three-point baskets, Akognon has knocked down 25 of them. Gerard Anderson, who is shooting 50.9 percent from the floor, leads the group with 8.2 rpg and is the only other double-digit scorer at the moment with his 12.8 ppg. However, between Anderson and Akognon there's a total of just 17 assists and 38 turnovers.

Neither one of these teams has been playing very well of late, but with Akognon on their side the Titans should have what it takes to pick up the win.

Predicted Outcome

Cal State Fullerton 77, Charlotte 65
