GAME NOTES: Now at 50 in a row, the nation's longest homecourt winning streak is on the line again tonight as the BYU Cougars entertain the Cal Poly Mustangs in the final game of the 2008 Basketball Travelers Invitational at the Marriott Center. The streak was left at 47 games following the conclusion of the 2007-08 campaign, but then picked up again when the Cougars defeated Long Beach State in the opener and then defeated North Florida on Thursday night. Last night BYU ripped through the Rice Owls in an 83-52 decision, giving the team a four-game win streak overall to start the new season. As for the Mustangs, they dropped back-to-back outings against Arkansas-Little Rock and then Rice, but on Friday Cal Poly put one in the win column with an easy 76-42 triumph over North Florida. As far as the all-time series between these two teams is concerned, this is the first-ever meeting.

Lorenzo Keeler dropped in a game-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 behind the three-point line on Friday night as the Mustangs easily picked up their first win of the season. Titus Shelton added 11 points while reserves Charles Anderson and David Hanson both contributed eight points and combined for 10 rebounds in the onslaught. The defense for the Mustangs was on-point in the first half, limiting the Ospreys to a mere 4-of-30 shooting, including 0-of-9 behind the three-point line. Through three games Keeler is leading the team in scoring with his 14.3 ppg, while Shelton checks in with 13.7 ppg on the strength of his 51.9 percent shooting from the floor. Shelton could have an even stronger influence on the team's 64 ppg were it not for his weak 56.5 percent effort at the free-throw line thus far.

Jonathan Tavernari produced a game-high 18 points and was one of four players to clear five rebounds for the Cougars as they streaked past Rice by 32 points last night. Lee Cummard and Jimmer Fredette each added 13 points and Lamont Morgan chipped in 10 points off the bench as he converted both of his three- point tries. The team as a whole made good on an impressive 12-of-22 beyond the arc and came up with 23 points off 18 Rice turnovers. Except for the opener again Long Beach State when the Cougars won by just 10 points, every other outing has been a blowout. After four games, the team holds a scoring advantage of nearly 26 ppg and is beating opponents on the glass by 10 rebounds. The defense for the squad has been suffocating, limiting foes to a mere 36.7 percent from the floor.

The fact that Cummard has not come up with a huge scoring effort in the last couple of games and still the Cougars have crushed opponents says a lot about the BYU supporting cast. Expect that balance to continue tonight as the Cougars add another tally to the win column at home.

Predicted Outcome

BYU 80, Cal Poly 62
