Riverside, CA -- (Sports Network) - Brandon Dowdy scored 14 points to lead the UC Riverside Highlanders to a 61-49 victory over the Sacramento State Hornets in a non-league battle at the Student Recreation Center.

Javon Borum added 12 points for UCR (1-1), while Aaron Scott contributed 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Loren Leath netted 14 points for Sacramento State (0-2), while Donald Thomas chipped in nine points to go along with eight rebounds.

Despite allowing the Hornets to shoot 61.1 percent from the field in the first half, the Highlanders went into the break with a 33-24 lead.

UCR shot a solid 44.4 percent from the floor in the second half and went on to claim a convincing 12-point victory.

The Highlanders scored 22 points off 23 Sacramento turnovers, while the Hornets netted just six points off 10 UC-Riverside miscues.
