Las Cruces, NM -- (Sports Network) - Jahmar Young scored 18 points to lead the New Mexico State Aggies to a 79-52 victory over the UC-Riverside Highlanders in a non-conference battle at the Pan American Center.

Troy Gillenwater added 17 points for NMSU (1-0), while Jonathan Gibson contributed 15 points in the victory.

Javon Borum and Jesse LoBue both netted 11 points apiece for UC-Riverside (0-1), while Konner Veteto chipped in 10 points in the loss.

The Aggies shot a sizzling 60.0 percent from the field in the first half and went into the break with a 45-30 lead.

New Mexico State used tenacious defense in the second stanza, limiting the Highlanders to a pathetic 25.0 percent shooting effort from the floor en route to the 27-point win.

The Aggies scored 30 points off 20 UC-Riverside turnovers, while the Highlanders tallied just eight points off 11 NMSU miscues.
