GAME NOTES: The Weber State Wildcats play the second of three straight at home in Ogden tonight as they battle in-state rival BYU in non-conference action. The Wildcats, who were away from home for the first four games of 2008-09, defeated Montana Tech in their own building on Saturday night by a score of 77-62 for their second win of the campaign. The victory, which snapped a two- game slide, came on the heels of a 75-49 setback to another local foe in Utah State four days earlier. Meanwhile, the BYU Cougars won their sixth game in as many tries on Saturday when they tackled the Idaho State Bengals by a score of 85-65. In every single victory this season, the Cougars have won by at least 10 points and are now a perfect 6-0 for the first time since the 1991-92 campaign. BYU leads the all-time series with Weber State by a count of 23-10 after posting a 72-57 triumph at home in Provo a season ago.

Jonathan Tavernari bounced back from a lackluster effort by putting up a team- best 23 points in the 20-point win over Idaho State Saturday night. Tavernari knocked down 10-of-17 shots from the field as one of four starters to score in double figures. Jimmer Fredette added 19 points and six assists, followed by Lee Cummard and Jackson Emery with 17 and 15 points, respectively. One of the top players in the Mountain West Conference this season, Cummard is first on the team with his 19.0 ppg, thanks to his 63.4 percent shooting from the floor. Tavernari checks in with 17.0 ppg and Fredette an additional 11.5 ppg to help push the program to a healthy 79.2 ppg on the strength of 51.5 percent shooting from the field. Ranked eighth in the nation this week in field goal percentage, the Cougars are listed seventh in the country as of Monday in terms of scoring margin with a plus-22.5 ppg.

The Wildcats converted just one of their 12 attempts from three-point range in the second half over the weekend and were 4-of-21 beyond the arc overall, yet somehow still figured out a way to defeat Montana Tech by 15 points at home. Steve Panos led a cast of five in double figures with his 12 points, adding a team-best eight rebounds as well, while Daviin Davis and Kellen McCoy tallied 11 points and four assists apiece. Nick Hansen and Damian Lillard checked in with 10 points each, although the latter shot just 2-of-7 from the floor off the bench. Panos, the leading scorer in each of the last three games for Weber State, is second on the roster in scoring with his 11.6 ppg, trailing McCoy and his 13.6 ppg. Both players are shooting the ball extremely well from the floor, McCoy hitting 60.5 percent of his attempts and Panos 53.7 percent, while the latter is also first on the glass with seven rebounds per game. Panos could stand to work on his passing though, having handed out just two assists and turned the ball over 11 times in five starts.

The Cougars may not be playing in front of the hometown faithful at the Marriott Center, but in this case they couldn't get much closer, which should be good enough to earn them yet another tally in the win column.

Predicted Outcome

BYU 83, Weber State 69
