NCAA Game Summary - Rice At B-Y-U

(Sports Network) - Jonathan Tavernari scored a game-high 18 points to lead the BYU Cougars to an overwhelming 83-52 win against the Rice Owls as part of the 2008 Basketball Travelers Invitational at the Marriott Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars (4-0) as they won their 50th straight game at home, were Lee Cummard and Jimmer Fredette with 13 points apiece and Lamont Morgan with 10 points off the bench.

The Owls (1-2) were paced by Lawrence Ghoram who came off the bench to tally 10 points and clear seven rebounds in the losing effort.

BYU knocked down a sizzling 9-of-15 behind the three-point line in the first half and 55.2 percent from the floor overall to take a 43-23 lead at the break.

In the second half the Cougars continued to shoot the ball well at a 56 percent clip, cruising to the 31-point win.

The home team forced the Owls into 18 turnovers and converted those miscues into 23 points as they extended the nation's longest home win streak.
